The Judicial Committee of the Privy Council (JCPC) began its historic sitting in the Cayman Islands from 15-18 November 2022. This was the first JCPC sitting in a UK Overseas Territory.
Prathna Bodden and Hugh Southey QC were instructed by an appellant in one of only three cases heard. The appeal raised several issues including whether the Grand Court of the Cayman Islands has jurisdiction to hold a closed hearing. A decision which no doubt will have a significant impact on every overseas territory, and especially The Cayman Islands.
